Opening Meet

After much discussion with doctors and other medical professionals, our hunt committee has decided that this years openening meet will be private.

No tickets will be sold and only members and landowners and their guests will be able to participate.

All participants will be required to sign an additional Covid-19 release.

We hope that all will return to normal for next years Opening Meet

knox-house-2The Belle Meade Hunt Opening Meet is one of the most popular events in Georgia and the largest Opening Meet in the world. Many of our patrons return each year. Invitations are limited and are mailed out in early October. 

Guest may ride the Tally Ho Wagons on the World’s Largest Rolling Tailgate Party™ or participate on horseback.

  • 10am-12pm  Hunt Breakfast, Boots Hall, Belle Meade Hunt Club
  • 1pm (arrive at NOON)  Blessing of the Hounds, Larry Knox Country House. Registration Site, BMH Store, and Tally-Ho Wagons departure site.  
  • 3:30pm   Champagne Stirrup Cup, Deep in Hunt Country on Tally Ho Wagons
  • 6-8pm Evening Social to Support the Hounds, Boots Hall, Belle Meade Hunt Club


bringTally Ho Wagon riders traditionally pack baskets of snacks and beverages to share with friends and riders. A stadium blanket is appropriate for chilly days. You may want to bring small carrots or bites of apple for the horses. Don’t forget your hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a camera!

Please remember this is a family event. If you choose to drink alcohol, please drink in moderation. No alcohol if under 21. 

wearThis activity will be entirely outdoors.  Please dress comfortably in “country casual” attire.  The hunt will go out rain or shine, so be prepared with appropriate outerwear.

Guests who wish to participate in the hunt must wear proper formal attire, pay appropriate capping fees, provide proof of coggins and sign a release form – for more details on requirements for riders click here.

Where to Stay

There are numerous hotels available within 30 minutes of Belle Meade Hunt in the Thomson, Evans, and Augusta areas. We recommend theWhite Columns Inn or Hampton Inn for visitors who wish to stay overnight in McDuffie County. Explore Thomson-McDuffie

Directions to Larry Knox House

The Larry Knox Country House is one mile north of Belle Meade Hunt on Wrightsboro Road on the left.  This is the site of the Blessing of the Hounds and where Tally Ho wagons begin. 

There is plenty of parking, but no horse trailers are allowed.  It’s recommended to arrive at noon to have time to find your wagon and to be in place for the Blessing of the Hounds. Seating is available. 

Look for the registration table and check out the Belle Meade tent store for a commemorative hunt medal, t-shirt or other mementos.

Directions to BMH Clubhouse

From I-20 take Exit 172 (Washington Road) north toward Washington.  Turn left onto Knox-Rivers Road as you pass the Dudley Nursery.  Turn right onto Wrightsboro Road.  Turn left onto Three Points Road and immediately you will see the hunt barn, clubhouse, kennels and entrance to Belle Meade Hunt directly in front of you.  Breakfast and Evening Social will be at the Boots Hall clubhouse.

Alternatively, from I-20, take Exit 169 (Three Points Road) north directly to the Belle Meade entrance on the left.

If you are pulling a horse trailer, please park in the field just to the left of the Belle Meade entrance.  There is a separate driveway just to the left of the Belle Meade entrance.
